The Accuracy International AW Rifle System is perhaps the world's strongest and most reliable weapon. The machined action is bonded to a full length alloy chassis system for brutal strength in even the harshest environments. Every component is manufactured from corrosion resistant material or given a protective finish prior to assembly, ensuring an AW rifle will perform reliably and consistently whether used for marine operations, in the desert or the arctic. The Aw System is the first choice for professional users in elite units worldwide. Featuring a 2 stage trigger, 3 position safety and proof tested barrel, the AW offers dependable accuracy that professionals can rely on. The AW series features available options such as a folding stock, adjustable cheek piece and a buttspike for long observation periods. 10 round magazines for .308 & .243 models. With a host of options and configurations, and a broad reange of accessories, the AW is a true weapon system.
Accuracy International was started in 1978 by a group of national and international target shooters, one of which was a two time Olympic Gold Medalist. Designed by shooters, for shooters. The original design's ethos combined two factors into a unique package: namely the incorporation of performance enhancing features learned in Olympic and international target shooting onto a rifle platform exhibiting full militarty ruggedness. The current designs are faithful to the orginal concept but also benefit from thirty years of continuous improvement. These advances are not cosmetic but are driven by the needs of users, highly trained military and police units in over 60 countries world-wide. On a daily basis such units are exposed to "live" tactical situations in the most demanding environments where first shot accuracy is critical. All componets are manufactured to Accuracy Internaional designs to ensure that they must perform, something that cannot be achieved with a ruggedished sporting weapon.
1. Barrel (Optional):
The match grade free floating barrel is screwed into the action with a 1.5" (38mm) long thread. This provides a rigid mount and results in consistent cold shot performance. A barrel can be changed in less than ten minutes using the barrel change kit.
2. Bonded Action:
The proprietary high grade steel flat bottom action that is permanently bonded and bolted to the full-length aluminium chassis is superior to the standard traditional bedding interface between actions and stocks. This rigid construction coupled with a full width machined-in recoil lug totally eliminates movement and ensures that zero will be maintained in arduous conditions. An integral dovetail rail provides a stable base for the AI one peice sight mount.
3. Full Length Aluminium Chassis:
The stiffness of the chassis means that any available surface can be used to support the rifle with no effect on accuracy. Its construction means its impervious to weather.
4. Folding Chassis (Optional):
This allows the stock to be folded when travelling in vehicles or for parachute insertions. The stock locks in the folded position for sercurtiy and the avoidance of noise. It is released by pulling firmly on the butt. The wear compensated hinge ensures total rigidity in the extended position. This option reduces overall length by 8" (210mm) when folded and adds 0.4 (0.2kg). (Optional on all AW Rifle Systems)
5. Butt Pad (Optional):
Each rifle is fitted with a fixed bolt-on pad together with 0.4" (10mm) and a 0.8" (20mm) spacer. Additional spacers are available to customize the length of pull. Further adjustment is possible with the optional target adjustable butt plate or spring loaded, quick adjust butt plate in conjunction with the quick adjust cheekpiece.
6. Butt Spike (Optional):
The threaded extendable spike enables the user to observe the target area for an extended period with minimal fatigue. Designed with quick and fine adjustment features out to 3.2" (80mm), it retracts up flush and out of the way for mobility.
7. Picatinny Rail (Optional):
This option is permanently pinned, bonded and bolted to the action providing a standard interface for many optical systems.
8. Trigger Assembly:
The Rifle is fitted with a two-stage trigger, which allows a large sear engagement to be maintained until the user takes up the first stage. This reduces the chance of an accidental discharge if the the rifle is jolted when cocked. The trigger is adjustable for the pull weights of 3.3-4.4LB (1.5-2.0kg). The trigger assembly can be easily removed for cleaning bu undoing the two socket head cap screws.
9. Safety Mechanism:
A three-position safety mechanism is fitted to the rifle. The first (rear) position blocks the firing pin and locks the bolt in the closed position. The second (mid) position blocks the firing pin, but allows the bolt to be operated so a live round may be removed from the chamber with the weabon in a safe condition. The third (forward) position allows the weapon to be fired. The safety will only operate when the bolt is cocked.
Designed to provide a secure grip and a repeatable shooting position in all conditions, the aluminium chassis is encased in polymer stocksides with an adjustable cheekpiece. With sights at normal height, this provides a solid position for the user's cheek. Stocksides are impervious to all normal cleaners and lubricants used in small arms maintenance and are available in black, green, or dark earth.
11. Adjustable Cheekpiece (Optional):
The standard adjustable cheekpiece adjusts left/right as well as for height to obtain optimum sheek position when using night vision equipment or telescopic sights with large objective lenses. The quick adjust cheekpiece option offers a spring loaded cheekpiece chosen in conjusction with the quick adjust butt plate.
The 0.75" (20mm) diameter steel close fitting bolt combined with vents and a gas shroud minimises blowback in the event of cartridge failure. The integral short throw bolt handle (60°) with large bolt knob, lies close to the stockside just above the trigger to minimise movement of the user's hand. The bolt can be field stripped without tools for cleaning.
13. Sling Fixing Points:
Sling attachment points are mounted on each side of the weapon, so the rifle can be carried flat against the back for security and confort over rough terrain and long distances. A front attachment point is situated below the fore end and can be used to anchor a target style sling or be replaced by an adapter for a Harris bipod.
One detachable steel magazine is included. This industry-leading design is corrosion resistant and low friction for reliable feeding.
The Aw sniper rifle system can be supplied in a variety of standard configurations. The Aw rifle comes in a .243, .308, .308 Suppressed,.300 Win Mag, and a .338 Lapua Mag. The .308 win barrels are available in six different configurations. Barrel lengths come in 16", 20", 24", 26", 27". All barrels and actions are black. Stockside colors come in black, green, and dark earth.
