The Lighfield Commander design incorporates an impact-discarding sabot which. unlike the traditional two piece discarding style, has no effect on the slug's stability. Evident upon the first use, the impact-discarding sabot also produces a controlled expansion slug for deeper penetration in addition to the high degree of stability.

I recently had the opportunity to go deer hunting near my home in Northern Illinois, with a brand new shotgun. This gun is a Remington 1100 with a 20 inch rifled barrel and a Redfield Revenge Sabot scope on it. After getting the gun properly sighted in, it printed almost exactly where it was aimed. I even shot it out to about 120 yards with rounds practically touching each other. I got a perfect walking shot at a young buck at almost exactly 100 yards, who immediately spun around in a tight circle and died right there, never running a foot. I thought that I had never made such a perfect shot, and indeed he was hit with my round in the spine over his front leg. The round never exited his body, expending its entire energy within the deer's body, killing him instantly. This is to me a remarkable performance from a 2 3/4 inch slug, and I am planning on using the Lightfield ammo for the future.
