Until you ve held and shot a Marlin, you don t know what a lever-action rifle can be. The ultra-smooth cycling and solid feel are created through a superior receiver design, the finest materials and a flawless meshing of these high-quality components. To produce our trademark excellence, our lever actions are built to strict tolerances rivaling those used to craft custom rifles. Further, all major components of the action are machined from heat-treated, solid steel forgings. The Marlin lever action s swift pointing characteristics, lightning-fast follow-ups, reliability and inherent accuracy have made it America s favorite. And what started with the invention of the first flat-top, side-eject receiver in 1889 has led us to pioneer every major advancement in the lever-action category since. A must-have for every gun collector. It has been in continuous production longer than any other rifle in America. Is it the tack-driving accuracy, superb looks or centerfire-like heft that s made it such a historical fixture? Yes, in all respects, the Model 39A is incomparable to any rimfire in the world today. Remarkably, it can be disassembled in seconds with only a coin. Thanks to Micro-Groove rifling, a special process that produces less bullet distortion and a better gas seal, this rifle punches tiny groups most other 22s can t touch. The stock is crafted of genuine American black walnut and adorned with fine cut checkering. It has a rebounding hammer and a hammer-block safety.

This is a gun without peer! The gun used by Annie Oakley, the oldest gun in continuous production since 1892. It has some of the most meticulous design engineering found on any rifle! I'm a certified instructor, have been factory trained by three arms companies, and have owned and fired countless guns in my 55 years of amateur and professional shooting.
The Marlin 39A will shoot with precision accuracy that will stand up to any 22 made, bar none. The checkering is the same custom pattern found as a high end option in the earliest Marlin catalogs. The hand filling weight and balance is superb. Function is absolutely flawless with any short, long, or long rifle cartridge (another reviewer apparently had the ejectors of his two rifles locked down in the cleaning position. It's always good to read instructions!!). The gun takes down to reveal some of the most brilliant and utterly perfect engineering ever conceived. Though this gun will easily take a scope, a black and gold Skinner peep sight atop the receiver and a Marble barrel blank to fill the rear sight slot is the way to go with this classic, gorgeous, all American shooter! Way to go, Marlin!

Bought a used 39a and had problems with shell extraction. Then bought a new 39a and had the exact problem with extraction about every 3rd shot.
Finally found out extractor was not holding shell to face causing shell to drop on new round. Called Marlin, the said they have not had problems with that model. Bought new extractor, better but jammed up about every 10th shoot.
