First, let me say this; I currently own 3 other Para’s besides this new 18.9. I love them. They have never failed me and I have been very happy with their quality; sooooo…that said, I was disappointed with my brand new Pro Custom 18.9.
I really wanted a dedicated 3-Gun pistol, so I sold off a couple of my other firearms and coughed up the $1200 for the Pro Custom, I fully expected my experience would be the same as my other Para’s. Like I said, love’em.
When I picked this gun up at my FFL’s home, I gave it a quick once over to make sure it functioned and its general appearance was OK. My FFL works out of a home office and it does not have the best lighting in the world but my initial impressions of the firearm was that all was good.
When I got home and took it apart that is when I started getting disappointed. First, the frame had A LOT of casting marks, especially around both sides of the ambidextrous thumb safety, none of my other Para’s look this bad and they were half the price. Secondly, it was filthy, honestly, the thing looked used. It was the dirtiest firearm I have ever bought, new or used. The lands in the barrel appeared to have rust in them. In addition, there appeared to be a fair amount of wear from use, you can see the wear on the hammer (and everywhere else), you can also see how rough the beavertail looks where it meets the frame. Lastly, the magwell was loose, not a lot but it wobbles back and forth a good 1/16th, I tried to tighten the hex screw but it didn’t help.
My guns are all shooters, I don’t buy museum pieces but I also think an out of the box pistol might be a little better than this. I’ve built a few AR’s on $49 PSA Blem lowers and, to be honest, I can’t tell where the blems are on the lower’s, I have to say, for the money, I was disappointed with Para this time on this product.
I sent this pistol back to Para 2 days after picking it up.

This is a sweet smoker, just a tad wider than a traditional 1911 but with larger sized hands I barely notice. When you are shooting this fine machine you have to remind yourself that this thing holds a bunch of ammo!! You expect the recoil of a .45 and the mag changes and it's only a 9mm so you are able to stay on target a little easier! Get yourself one!
