I have been shooting my 1187 for 3 years now. From day one it would occasionally fail to cycle cleanly trapping an expended hull in the action while trying to bring the next shell into the chamber. I sent it back while still under warranty to Remington.

Their response was that the gun was too dirty. It was used only once after having been professionally cleaned by my local gun dealer before I sent it to them.. Remington pronounced it to be in perfect working order after, so they said, having fired the gun many times.

I thoroughly clean the gun before every hunt. In fact, I have become quite good at it. It still miss-cycles at least once if not twice every time I take it out. I think of it as a fancy single shot when I am hunting, and am currently looking for a replacement. In the meantime, I will be using my old Winchester pump from my childhood days.

Now they have the Versa-max which sounds like it would be the answer to all my problems. However, based on their previous warranty service, I am hesitant to go with another Remington. I wish Browning would bring back the old A-5 in an updated 3-3.5 inch waterfowl configuration with duck blind camo and a good choke system.
