What makes POF Rifles special?There are many features which make rifles from POF USA highly sought after by the military, law enforcement, government agencies, and firearm enthusiasts. POF rifles are the first gas piston operated weapon system on the AR-style rifle platform to be sold on the firearm market. Rifles from Patriot Ordnance Factory are American owned and designed by POF USA President and CEO Frank DeSomma, a mechanical engineer who works in the aerospace industry. Frank took a long, hard look at the AR gas system and found inspiration in some not-so-new technology - the FN-FAL. Instead of employing a tube to transfer gas from a barrel port back to the bolt, POF rifles employ an FAL-type gas plug, gas piston and an operating rod. This is a simple, yet reliable system that has been battle tested. As a sport shooter and lifelong student of quality and precision, Frank has strived to improve the traditional gas impingement design for the AR style rifle.
POF Rifle Gas Piston SystemThe original adaptation of the FAL system worked well when applied to the AR-15 rifle, but POF USA spent considerable time and effort trying to perfect the gas piston for its rifles. POF's system is unlike that found in other tactical rifles in that it is self-regulating and devoid of springs. Getting rid of the springs was an important step, as they are prone to failure after long-term exposure to heat - a fact of life for every part in the actions of all automatic or semi-automatic rifles. The gas-piston system of a POF rifle dramatically reduces fouling in comparison to traditional, direct-gas impingement systems found in other AR rifles. POF USA went a step further to reduce fouling with the Corrosion Resistant Operating System on its AR rifles. The POF USA CROS consists of a chrome-lined barrel, barrel extension and gas block, including the TIG-welded gas tube. The gas plug and piston, bolt, carrier, cam pin and firing pin are chrome plated. The inside of the upper and charging handle of a POF rifle are silicon nickel plated. A weapon's first priority must be reliability. As such, POF USA has engineered, manufactured, and tested all POF rifle systems to ensure the durability of the POF P308 and POF P415/416 gas-piston uppers. POF has eliminated features of the gas operating system such as gas-rings, gas tube, and the gas key. The P308 and the P415/416 gas-piston system also eliminates flex, stress, heat, carbon build up, and gas leaks which can have an adverse effect. The POF USA gas-piston system has two modes of fire - one for normal mode, and a second for suppressed. No tools are required to change modes of operation. Other Features of POF USA RiflesThe fluted barrels of all POF rifles using NATO chambers are polygonal rifled, and use 4150 Mil-B-11595 chrome-moly vanadium alloy (machine gun rated) to reduce heat and weight. All POF USA rifle barrels are 70 rockwell case hardened heat treated for corrosion resistance. Patriot Ordnance Factory barrels are twice as hard as Mil-Spec and hammer forged barrels. The heat sink barrel nuts, fluted barrels, and free floating rail design of all POF USA rifles help to reduce heat of the rifle barrel around the chamber throat area. These POF rifle features improve the overall operating temperature fo the weapon system. All POF lowers are ambi-controlled, bolt releases, mag releases, and safety selectors. POF's billet machined lowers all include oversized integrated trigger guards for use with gloves, and large beveled feed ramps on the entrance of the magwell for faster mag loads. POF rifles have a roller cam pin, which reduces friction and drag of the bolt carrier assembly. The POF roller cam pin is NP3 coated to allow the pin to operate without the need to lube. Patriot Ordnance Factory rifles come with 2 piece upper receiver M.R.R. Modular Railed Receiver with a free floating, monolithic top rail system. Hunter/Sniper rifle or Tactical rifle rail. POF USA rifles have proven to be utterly reliable and easier to clean than any other AR rifle on the market today, even after extended firing sessions.
