Product DescriptionAll Sporter models feature sling mounts, grip caps and "Alex Henry" style forends. Sporter models also feature adjustable rear sights and blade front sights. A compact, strong, simple breech mechanism allows the Ruger No. 1 single shot to be made with a minimum of mechanical contraptions. The ejector mechanism is designed to provide great leverage at the point where the ejector engages the rim or groove of the cartridge case. It can be adjusted to provide extraction only. A sliding shotgun type tang safety provides both security and ease of operation. Please Note: This description may represent a general group of products. Please read the item's title and specifications for more specific information about this particular item. |

I love this gun and caliber. Short fat powerful cartridges in short rifles produce a very happy thick woods deer stand hunter. Based on limited shooting so far, the gun has produced 7/8 inch 3 shot groups at 100 yards with Hornady 200 grain SST factory loads.
Recoil is very tolerable. No worse than 35 Whelen and less than 45-70. Gun is short and easily manueverable in tight deer stands, but a bit heavy for its size, but not fatiguing.
I fitted a Leupold VX-3 3.5-10X 50 with supplied Ruger rings on integral mounts and am happy with combo. I have taken 3 deer and a coyote with the gun this year. All were clean, short range (40-120 yard) one shot kills.
No surprise, but the gun is a bit much for thin-skinned deer-size game. Large exit wounds. (So far, no blood trailing required.) Hope to have opportunity to use on larger game hunt in near future.
