The Sig516 Patrol (Gen 2) by Sig Sauer is one of the most advanced and versatile AR-based rifles available. It uses the innovative Sig Sauer short-stroke gas piston system, which reduces chamber debris and allows the rifle to run cleaner and cooler, and it features an adjustable four-position gas regulator. The Sig516 Patrol also features a free-floating military-grade barrel, an M1913 quad rail handguard, an M1913 Picatinny flat-top upper, an ambidextrous magazine release, and flip-up iron sights. This rifle is available in multiple color schemes.

I purchased this rifle sometime ago (three weeks). I originally special ordered Knights Armament SR-15E3 back in February, but I was told it was going to be September before the Krieger barrel would be ready for the rifle so I cancelled and ordered this Sig Sauer SIG516 when it was available. I read great reviews on it and watched the extreme test this rifle went through on Sig Sauer's testing ground and didn't hesitate to get it. The rifle works as expected. It's comparable in weight with any other rifles for a basic piston driven rifle. It shoots accurately and we put through 700 rounds. I have it's big brother SIG716 and it never gave me any problems as well so buying the SIG516 was well worth the price. If you're going to make it an ambidextrous bolt release purchase the Tactical Link BAD lever. That's the only bad lever that will work with SIG rifles except SIG716. There aren't currently any BAD lever for SIG716.
The rifle needs to be clean before you take it to the range. It has tons of grease in the buffer spring area and too much oil in the BCG area. The only downside to this purchase is for the amount of money you spend they should throw in a hard or softcase instead of a box. Overall the SIG516 is going to serve you well for many years to come. I've been using 62g bullet since the barrel is 1/7 twist and you really need to do your research if you're planning to use 55g bullet in this barrel. If you're thinking of buying this rifle you won't be disappointed. Enjoy your 2nd Amendment.

I bought this SIG516 two months ago. We shot this rifle along with its big brother SIG716, and it shot great. My son and I put 700 rds through it from 100yds to all the way to 432yds, and it didn't fail at all. We used the Sig Sauer CP1 3X Prismatic Scope, and it reached the 432yds without any effort. What got me to choose this weapon was the Sig Sauer video where this weapon is going through extensive testing (sand, mud, submerging into a muddy water, etc.) and was able to fire shortly afterwards. Understand this AR isn't cheap but then again none of my ARs are cheap. So you get what you pay for. Even though it's a piston rifle, I still clean it like it was a Direct Impingement Gas rifle. It is nice to know that If I choose not to clean it it'll last longer than DGI out in the field.
This weapon is very reliable but it is a bit front heavy due to the quad rails. My LWRC M6-SL is much lighter but I have no regrets and will keep it for a long time. I like the OD green, and it's nice to have something that isn't black like my LWRC and SIG716. If you plan on using ambidextrous bolt release, my RECOMMENDATION is to get Tactical Link (Enhanced Battery Assist Lever). The Mag Pul BAD doesn't work unless you use a Dremel to make it work. Why damage your rifle? So don't be lazy and get the right tools for your rifle.
I highly recommend this rifle as well this sight. Hinterland Outfitters did great by me. I bought several rifles from them when there were no ARs to purchase back home so I have nothing but high remarks for this company. Brett is great guy who knows his stuff and you won't be disappointed.
If you to purchase this rifle you'll have great time with it. Enjoy your 2nd Amendment!!
