The SIG SAUER P226 Enhanced Elite Handgun
In the top-class of production pistols, the SIG SAUER® P226® is considered as an American first line of defense. Designed specifically for the United States Army and carried by the U.S. Navy SEALs, Texas Rangers and many other elite military and law enforcement professionals, the SIG P226 proved its mettle and then some with reliability, durability, and accuracy. This P226 handgun from SIG set the standard for all other combat handguns to be measured with. In order for a new design to replace the 1911, this pistol was designed as SIGs entrant in the military trials.
In the heat of combat, at the shooting range, or for home-defense, the SIG SAUER P226 full-sized handgun is a force to be reckoned with. With an included integral accessory rail, the SIG SAUER P226 is a Double-Action/Single-Action (DA/SA) pistol. There is also a Single-Action Only (SAO) model available too. With exceptional ergonomics and balance, the P226 pistol is very easy to handle. The three calibers of 9mm, .357 SIG or .40 S&W and a longer barrel yields for better accuracy and ballistic performance.
The "Enhanced Elite" models take the same features common to all Elite series pistols and combine them with the ergonomic one piece reduced reach grips used in SIG SAUER E2 pistols. The P226® pistol brings the advantage of the one piece modular grip to a wider audience.
The SIG SAUER P226 Enhanced Elite Features include:
- Chambered .40S&W or 9mm
- One piece reduced reach ergonomic grip with updated stippling pattern
- Beavertail frame with front strap checkering and accessory rail
- Slide features "Elite" engraving and front strap checkering

The pistol is comfortable to hold (I have smallish hands) and is comfortable to shoot. There is a bit of trigger creep on the DAO first shot. I recommend staying away from the extended magazines that are sold with the TACOPS pistol, they're more trouble than they're worth. Having tested handguns for a major law enforcement organization, I can tell you that this pistol fared really well in a very tough competition, enough so that I bought one. Disassembly and cleaning is a snap. Accuracy is where you want it. The frame seems to be sturdy enough to take the beating that the .40 S&W cartridge gives to pistols. All told, a solid pistol. I have a build that allows me to conceal it, but someone that is small is not going to be able to conceal this pistol, it's just too large for that.

I love Sig pistols and I could not wait to get the Enhanced Elite 226. I saw a post describing the new E2 grip as "hand velcro." I was apprehensive that Sig could improve the grip on their pistols, but they did and hand velcro is a good description. The new grip is significantly better than the old grip and the pistol functions as expected from a Sig. Well worth the money.
