I just got this gun the other day and shot it for the first time today. I must say that I am quite impressed with it!
The accuracy is almost as good as a Ruger MKII/MKIII and it managed to fire approximately 300 rounds without a single issue until I tried running Walmart Winchester 333 white box bulk hollow point ammo.
The first 100 rounds was CCI Mini Mag round nose and fired all 100 without a single issue. Next I tried the Walmart Winchester 333 white box and had a feed issue every other round during that magazine, so then tried the Federal 550 bulk pack and fired approximately 200 more rounds without a single issue! In conclusion, this is one superb .22LR handgun as long as you stay away from the Walmart Winchester 333 hollow point ammo!
The adjustable windage and elavavation rear sight are a nice touch and did need some adjustment, but a little bit of adjustment with the supplied adjustment tool and they were good to go!
Do be aware that the picture for this particular model is not correct as the 226BR22BAS model is actual the beaver tail model, hence the "BR" in the model number and that is why you will notice a slightly higher price on this particular model.
The beaver tail might not be all that necessary, but it is a nice added cosmetic touch in my own opinion. However, it does add some extended length to the gun if for some reason you do decide to get the caliber X-Change kit in the 9mm, 40S&W, or 357Sig and want to try making this a every day carry weapon.
I do not recommend this as a CCW because of the enormous size, but if you're the type of person that likes a full size CCW, than more power to you because this is one solid gun! My next purchase will be the caliber X-change kit.
Heck, I'm liking this gun so much that I most likely will get the x-change kit in both 9mm and 40S&W. The nice thing about getting the X-change kit in 40S&W or 357Sig is that all you have to do is get an additional barrel for approximately $175 to be able to shoot both 357Sig and 40S&W.
The 357Sig and 40S&W use the same magazine and the barrel OD is the same on both so it will fit in the same slide. Really the only complaint I have about this gun is that it doesn't lock back after the final round and that the magazine capacity is only 10 rounds.
The good thing is that there is a company that manufactures magazine modification parts to enable it to hold 15 rounds and lock back on final round. I just wish the people at Sig were smart enough to do that in the first place so I wouldn't have to place an order through an aftermarket company to make the gun perfect to my liking.
That is the reason for the 4 stars rather than the full 5 star rating!
If you are looking to get a Sig P226, this is the best way to start out as it is much less than the other calibers and by the time you get a caliber x-change kit for it, you will have saved a lot of money and basically gotten a .22LR conversion kit for almost free!
I highly recommend this gun!
On a side note, if you are used to the Ruger MKII or MKIII, it will take a while to get use to the trigger on this as it has a lot of take up and a long reset in comparison to the Ruger's, but then again this is a completely different style of gun with a double action trigger system.
