I purchased an axis 223 Last week I put a 4X12 223 sight specific scope on it. The store bore sighted it but it was off so far I shot my 20 rounds up before I got it sighted in.The shells go on sale next week so I only bought one box. (20 rounds) I didn't' see in the owners manual that it was 5.56 compatible.
On the gun barrel its self it only says 223. So I don't know if it is 5.56 compatible. I don't know if it is a common practice but if rifle is capable of shooting both rounds it should be marked on the rifle. Who is going to have manual 5 years from now?
Now my limited review.
The gun is difficult to load a single round in at a time. The shell does not line up properly. Many times it took me 30 t0 40 seconds to get the shell chambered properly. When I used the magazine it worked fine.
My next observation is the magazine. It has a plastic release lever If it does not break when the temperature is about zero and I am calling Coyotes I will be surprised. I never have had plastic work well in cold weather.
I will sight it in next week It the grouping is not good I will write another review. Remember this rifle is probably a entry level gun so for the price it may be a excellent value.

Gun shoots great and has a nice pattern. I had about a 1 1/4 inch spread at 100yd but that was probably just me moving.
