Savage 11 Models are probably the best bolt action rifle value available. Accu-trigger, Accu-stock, floating bolt head, drop magazine, milled receiver and excellent barrels for just under $600 delivered are the features I compared to other rifles while shopping, and nobody else checked all the boxes.
Recoil pad, well finished barreled action (no tool marks, everything fits, everything works), cushy recoil pad, and out of the box accuracy. Punching the bore always tells a story, and this one says it's smoother than a factory barrel should be, and the rifling is well cut and engages the patch or brush. Trigger breaks very weigh (I haven't adjusted it or checked pull weight yet) and the Accu-trigger is an extra safety I really like. It's a good, solid shooters rifle, and I'm anxious to check durability.
Two glaring dislikes are the bolt release and access to the rear action bolt. Putting the bolt release on the receiver would add a milling step to the receiver, but pulling the trigger while depressing the release and pulling the bolt out is pretty awkward. Related, putting the rear action bolt under the bolt release makes it difficult to work without marring something. Stock finish is rough - too much seam flash. Fit is perfect, but the rest of the rifle deserves better. Doubtless, Savage would point out these thing cost money, and they put effort where it matters most - and they'd be right.
I like this rifle, and I'd buy it again. And given that one of my sons will probably steal it from me, I may have to...
