I am not unbiased in my opinion of S&W revolvers. My first revolver was a Smith 357 Mag. and I still have it today after 40 years of shooting. This revolver seems to be in the same vein as my original handgun, ie. it shoots extremely well, very accurate out of the box and not overly cumbersome in spite of the weight and the power of the rounds being fired. I am using this only for the 454 Casull and I was inside 2 inches at 7 yards, inside 3 inches at 15 yards and inside 5 inches at 25 yards, all shot offhand. Have no need to shoot longer distances presently, but may if need arises and I fully expect the gun to perform perfectly. Smith would have to put a right angle barrel on a revolver for me to "dis" them. All of their products have worked well for me over the years. Thank God there are still companies who take pride in producing a quality product.

This has become my favorite revolver in my collection. Shoots as smooth as can be. Recoil is very manageable. In my opinion it is a much better value than the S&W 500.

Ordered via phone. Customer service was extremely helpful and courteous. Ordered the 460V on a Friday and the pistol was shipped to my FFL dealer and arrived on Tuesday. Gun arrived fire tested by S&W.
This was a great purchase and I am looking forward to many years of handgun hunting with this pistol! I will definitely do business with Hinterland again.

This is truly the most usable of all X-Frames. I have put over 2200 rounds through my personal 460 with no serious issues. The 460 is by far in the world of large caliber handguns on of the most pleasant to fire.
The design of the muzzle brake makes the 460 feel like a 5" .44 mag. I have taken 1 elk at 225 yards and dropped the animal in it's place.
The only issue is the muzzle brake and the noise that goes with it. It is mandatory for extra ear protection while both shooting on the range as well as out in the field. As compared to the 500 it truly is comfortable to fire and a seasoned Handgun shooter should have no problems both sighting in the firearm due to recoil.
I have been able to fire 100 rounds during practise as compared to my 500 at 30 rounds. I have no doubt that there is not an animal in North America that the 460, with the right load, can handle.
I use an older Aim Point, which has held up extremely well , For anything from Coyotes to Elk and Bear and have yet been forced to take more than two shots to handle them...though I normally shoot what I carry out in the field but it is nice to have the choice to down load the 460 for lighter skinned animals.
