This is one fine gun! I just bought it but am a huge fan of S&W revolvers and semi-autos. Currently I am a Glock fan and yet I wanted a revolver with enough energy to put down an elk and there are plenty of 300 gr. bullets out there to do the job...if I do my part. I had a Taurus .454 Casull that was very accurate and yet the recoil was severe - 10 rounds off the bench were enough to make my wrists ache. So, a .44 Mag seemed to be the right compromise and Smith delivered. I shot it a few times and found that off-hand at 25' I was able to shoot a 1" group with the Federal 300 grainers. Not bad at all and they were all in the center of the target. For a legal carry gun in Washington State where loaded long guns are prohibited in a vehicle, this is the way to go if you find a deer or elk in the roadway and can get out and 'pop' them accurately. For me, this is the gun to carry for large and for dangerous game while hiking the NW.
