Waited a while to submit a review; wanted to use the rifle several times before writing anything. Did a similar review on 04/29/13, but it did not go through as of the writing.
Negatives (nothing to do with the rifle itself, and may only pertain to a few States):
I live in CA (not much of a gun friendly state); a “Bullet Button†magazine release needed to be installed prior to the rifle entering CA; an average cost of a Bullet Button is about $25.00 and takes about 10 minutes to install; the total cost for the button & installation by Hinterland is $65.00 ($40.00 for installation?). The CA compliant 10 round metal magazine that was sent with the rifle, does not drop freely when released.
Positives (some not noted in the Hinterland description):
Received the original magazine release button in a separate baggie, total cost including the Bullet Button was better than buying locally; came with a lockable hard plastic case, two 2†and one 4†accessory rails with mounting screws, a short “cable†lock that can be used to lock the case if necessary, an end plate with ambidextrous H-K type mounting points for a sling (similar to Hinterland item #28198); in the side compartment of the Magpul ACS adjustable stock is two “dummy†rounds and a quick detach swivel socket with mounting screw that can be mounted on either side of the stock (small hole behind the stock’s release lever). Stag Arms has a Lifetime Transferable Warranty & Infinite Shot Barrel Guarantee. Other than needing to install sights, the rifle shoots “Great†right out of the box! In a Gen3 PMag (drops freely when released); used a few hundred rounds of cheap ammo; 5.56mm IMI 55 gr, 5.56mm GGG 62 gr penetrator, .223 Wolf “Gold†55 gr, .223 Previ 75 gr match; the rifle did not have any problems eating up the ammo, and consistently shot very small groups with all ammo at a 100’ zero (less than 3/4 inch groups; when taking the time to aim correctly, and I’m not even close to being an expert, nor am I a completion shooter). The compensator does its job in minimizing muzzle flip/jump, and also does a good job of suppressing muzzle flash. If you have never used a Geissele trigger, you will love this one; very nice and crisp hammer release, little if any over-travel, very quick reset (you can hear and feel the reset).
