I have had two steel-frame versions of this revolver -- one a 5 1/2-inch barrel "Sheriff's" model and they are something else to shoot. The front sights are correctly regulated to the point of aim through the groove in the frame and the accuracy is astounding. I used one of the full-length barrel versions in a friendly completion between the Pueblo San Diego Gunfighters Club I belonged to and the SWAT team form Lees Summit, Missouri. The Remington replica shot the tightest handgun groups of the competition, astounding the SWAT team members we competed against. Also, one of the plusses of the Remington design is that you can purchase additional cylinders and pre-load them for shooting. It's a simple matter of placing the hammer in the half-cock position, pulling the cylinder pin forward and removing the fired cylinder and replacing it with the pre-loaded one. Such reloads are much quicker than can be accomplished with an 1873 Colt Peacemaker-type revolver. The Remington can hold 35-40 grains of black powder behind a .451 to .454-diameter ball, making it quite potent. In year past a hunter named Al Georg used to take black bears with his maximum-loaded 1858 Remington revolvers.
