Springfield Armory began initially as ammunition and gun carriage storage under George Washington during the American Revolution in 1777. It wasn’t until 1794, however, that Springfield Armory began to manufacture muskets, and they supplied American troops with firearms and firearm designs for the next 150 years.
After World War II, Springfield began manufacturing the infamous M14 selective fire automatic rifle for the United States military to replace the M1 Garand. By the early 1960s, the M14 was the standard issue infantry rifle. It was also the last battle rifle issued in high quantity to military personnel.
In 1968, Springfield was shut down by the U.S. Government due to financial concerns. It was resurrected by the Reese family in 1974, who wanted to pay homage to Springfield Armory’s innovations of the past by using modern technology to launch the brand into the future.
Today, Springfield Armory manufactures two rifle production models: the illustrious M1A series of rifle weaponry and the newer Saint AR-15 series. Both boast cutting-edge engineering designs that are sprung to life by progressive manufacturing and inspired handling, which has gained worldwide fame.

The Springfield list of rifles includes:
The M1A is essentially the civilian version of the original M14 design issued to the military throughout the 1960s. Even some of the earlier versions of the M1A were manufactured with surplus G.I. parts, but there still remain some subtle differences between the two firearms. For example, military M14 receivers were made from a more complicated and expensive drop forge process, while the newer M1A model receivers are crafted from precision investment cast AISI 8620 alloy steel. Additionally, after the Federal Assault Weapons Ban of 1994, Springfield removed the bayonet lug from the M1A, which was a distinct feature of the original M14 issued rifle.
Many servicemen utilized the M14, which performed with distinction, and Springfield Armory brought military precision to civilians with its Standard M1A model.
The SOCOM 16 model tactical rifle comes in two compact packages, but don’t let the compact rifle size fool you. You can expect a powerful shot with less felt recoil and less muzzle rise, compliments of the SOCOM 16’s design refinements that shooters have come to love and expect.
From time to time you need something that’s just a bit different. The Scout Squad is the M1A model usually marketed to law enforcement, but that doesn’t mean it’s not fit for civilian users. The M1A Scout Squad rifle fits comfortably in trucks and trunks, and carries nicely when tramping through heavy brush.
With an 18-inch barrel, muzzle stabilizer and a forward mounted optical sight base, the Scout Squad is one of the most versatile M1A models. Its size allows for quick handling, and when paired with fast sight acquisition, you’ll be seconds closer to your target.
The M1A series also includes two match rifles — the National Match M1A and the Super Match M1A. Both rifles are top-rated competition firearms, but you’ll find the Super Match model is more customizable and includes higher-end features.
If you are looking for a competitive rifle with serious performance-oriented upgrades and extra features without the match-shop pricing, then check out the popular Loaded M1A. You will appreciate the National Match tuned 4.5-5Lb 2 stage trigger along with the National Match front sight blade and non-hooded National Match rear aperture aid, which can help with target accuracy. Other features include parkerized carbon steel barrels, windage and elevation adjustable sights, detachable box magazine and op-rod and roller cam bolt.
The Springfield M1A comes in 8 different model variants, which include:
Springfield started a new chapter in the life of the company with its SAINT line, which is the company’s first advance in the AR-15 market.
The Springfield SAINT is a modern-day rifle that features numerous upgrades and enhancements. As the name implies, this personal defense rifle evokes a sense of strength and safety, a tool that can be trusted and relied upon in times of mayhem and great need when protecting your home.
The Saint AR-15’s features include:
The SAINT AR-15 makes no concessions when it comes to features, manufacturing and operator experience. It delivers outstandingly smooth action, is able to handle a wide range of bullet types and has a trigger that combines the right pull weight for defensive use but one you won’t feel.
