Product Description

Forged and machined steel receiver, engraved and highly polished, raised comb walnut stock, magazine cut-off, HiViz ProComp fiber-optic sight with mid bead.

Reliable pump-action. Make that super reliable trap gun. The BPS trap has earned a reputation as a fine trap guy. Why? The overall feel and fit of the entire shotgun from muzzle to recoil pad has proven to be a solid platform for consistent, reliable, winning performance. With the addition of a raised comb it feels extraordinary.

Tough as steel. The proven pump-action features rugged steel components. The receiver is machined from a solid block of forged steel. Rigid double slide bars are made from heat-treated steel to eliminate twisting and binding for faster, more efficient slide-action operation. Reliable in all conditions. A convenient serrated slide release is located at the rear of the trigger guard.

Best features. For most companies, the pump shotgun is an entry-level item built for the beginner. We don’t see it that way, knowing there are shooters who demand the highest quality and reliability from their pump shotgun. The BPS uses a rugged, steel frame and twin action bars for long-lasting, bind-free, pump-action performance.

Good Points Bottom ejection stays clean; fewest jams (zero in four years of hard hunting) of any shotgun I've hunted; eats all types of ammunition with no difference in function; backstrap safety comes off as I mount the gun, increasing safety factor. Also, the bottom eject and backstrap safety make it ambidextrous, make it easy to collect spent shells, and prevent hitting your blind-mate with your empties. Magazine bypass button for deloading without cycling is another good safety feature. Bad Points Extra barrels and other parts are much more expensive than Remington versions; action is slightly harder to clean than side-eject designs. General Comments The BPS is a clearly superior design to the Remington 870. There are fewer moving parts -- the loader bars double as the ejection bars, so it is impossible (at least, I've never done it) to short-cycle the gun and jam a shell under the ramp, as is common in 870s and their clones. The enclosed action eliminates rain and snow intrusion into the action and cuts down on dirt. I use my marsh-camo, synthetic-stock 3.5 inch 12 gauge as my goose gun and have abused it in brackish water for four years, including crawling with the gun submerged, and frequently hunting in below 20-degree weather. I have never stripped it further than removing the barrel for cleaning, and yet I do not have any corrosion and have never had a jam or failure to cycle. My previous Remington 870 broke down repeatedly in these conditions. I'm very impressed with the BPS and will certainly get another if I ever manage to kill this one.
