After Washington State started requiring nontoxic shot on all state lands I found myself in search of a new pheasant load. After a few hours on the patterning bench with steel shot from $12-$32 a box I selected the prairie storm FS steel 3” #4 shot. It is not the cheapest load on the market but it out patterned (in my SBE2 with stock cryo chokes) all of the other lower cost loads and it was on par with the more expensive loads. Having a good shot pattern is not the only thing that makes a great hunting load it has to be able to stop birds consistently as well. After two weekends of hunting and 4 bagged roosters I am confident that this load will live up to your expectations. One shot was at least 40 yards and with a IM choke the bird dropped with like a rock and another was a difficult forest shot that required shooting a little closer than I would have liked but even with a IM choke the flightcontrol wad helped produce a wide enough pattern that I could hold slightly off of the bird and not destroy it. These would also be a good choice for decoying ducks as well for the same reason.
