Cosmetically, the 464 looks exactly like you'd expect a traditional, western style lever action carbine to look. The buttstock sports a straight grip or pistol grip and a squarish lever, and the forend is secured with a steel barrel band. A 20" barrel and a full-length under-barrel magazine complete the picture.

I had a chance to buy a per 64 Winchester 94 but I decided to buy the Mossberg instead. I am glad I did. It is everything I wanted in a lever action rifle

I wanted a Winchester Lever Action rifle and was disappointed to find out that they are no longer made new. When faced with trying to buy a used one, I found out that this Mossberg was actually what I was looking to try out, and for the price from Hinterland, it was a no brainer...I paid average for what a used one at these small gun shops were looking to charge.
From the time that I received the rifle from my local FFL to the first time that I fired it at the range, I am thoroughly impressed. Out of the box, it was accurate and I had no trouble sighting in the rifle.
The only thing that I found is that when you load the weapon, unless you angle the bullet almost 80 degrees to the rifle, it may not go in and get stuck in the slot. Other than that, its a great buy and more importantly, fun to shoot.

Although this lever action isn't a Marlin or Winchester, for those seeking a reliable, attractive, and affordable "old west" rifle, this Mossberg can't be beat. Out of the box, it's highly accurate and with the addition of a reasonable scope, that deer or boar doesn't stand a chance!
I've had a good time with this rifle at the range and most people who don't own a weapon of this variety are surprised at it's low weight, perfect balance and ultra-smooth action.
Of course (as any .30-30 does) it kicks pretty well and for the more fragile shooter I would recommend an softer (perhaps, thicker) aftermarket shoulder pad.
I own several products from Mossberg and this rifle's quality mechanics, ease of maintenance and extremely rare instance of malfunction are exactly what I have come to expect from the folks at Mossberg.
On a personal note, I had never fired a larger lever action rifle until last year and as soon as I did it was pretty difficult to get the smile off of my face.
There really is nothing like imagining yourself swaggering down the main drag of a frontier railroad town and into the nearest saloon with this quintessential American firearm by your side. Plus, it looks great with my Colt Peacemaker .45 and my Stoeger Coach Gun Supreme.
