Just had a chance to take out my new scout squad. I love it. Heavy but balances well. If you were to put a LER scout scope on the forward mount though I think it would be too heavy and clumsy. I'm putting a Luepold Delta point pro red dot on a Hopco mount that replaces the rifles rear sight. The muzzle brake does? a good job keeping muzzle flip down for faster follow up shots but it is very LOUD. If you're sensitive to muzzle blast I would replace the muzzle brake with a flash hider. I'm going to look into getting a muzzle brake/ flash hider hybrid that reduces muzzle blast but also keeps muzzle flip to a minimum. If you have the money for this rifle , buy it, you won't be disappointed . It's a beautiful well made gun that stands out from all the other black rifles.

Just picked up my Springfield scout squad yesterday and all I can say is"wow". I couldn't be happier with the service, product or experience I had ordering from Hinterland. Shipping was quick. I ordered on a Weds and it was delivered the following Weds. My questions/ emails were answered in a timely manner. But most importantly the rifle arrived in brand new, perfect condition. It was shipped in a custom Springfield softcase which I was not expecting. Very nice with Velcro gun retention straps inside, a zippered accessories pouch outside and 3 pockets for 20 Rnd mags. This was my first time ordering a gun online so I was a little apprehensive especially with a rifle costing@ $1700 but I was not disappointed and I will definitely be ordering from Hinterland again. I would highly recommend them and did I mention they saved me $350 from what it was going to cost me at my dealer. No tax and $10 for shipping. Awesome. Enough saved to buy a scope! PS : Hinterland gives you a $5 coupon to write a review but I would have taken the time to write this one for free.

Springfield M1A is a top notch gun for many areas of usage. Likewise, Hinterland Outfitters is a top notch business. I had a very good buying experience. Thank you.

Great follow-up email communication, and fast shipping, by Hinterland. However, the rifle arrived damaged with one of the wings protecting the front sight post sheared or broken off (MIM part?). Not a fault of Hinterland, though, but rather the rough handling of the shipper during the shipping process. I don't know if the shipment was double-boxed, and my FFL holder later removed the outside carton, but the factory box was trashed with a couple of good-sized holes punched through the cardboard. Anyway, I realize this is designed as a robust battle-type rifle, but when you spend this kind of money on any rifle, you expect better handling from everyone involved in the shipping chain. No big deal, though, as I have an email out to the manufacturer to find a solution. It is an easily replaceable part.
